B&S Graduate Collection Statement:
Designers shape the ideas, look, and selling strategy of the retail environment. Designers create and grant the options from which the public is forced to choose. We are fascinated by the ways in which design can draw attention and create attraction. It can create an atmosphere and evoke a mood that can be used to control its audience, both consciously and subconsciously. This project is concerned with the details that add up to design's power to control.

By creating the B&S identity, advertisements, and installation, the project investigates the principles of curiosity, identity (corporate and personal), awareness, and presentation.
The "B&S" senior show exhibit was created by Bret Petersen and Stephanie Magedanz (Bartsch) in 2004. They were Art & Design students at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
The project involved guerrilla marketing, posting B&S stickers (with no further context) on walls, clocks, bathroom stalls, and furniture. A week later, we introduced exhibit posters, revealing the logo and its tie to the upcoming exhibit.

The "Fitting in Room" held all sketches and draft mock-ups for the exhibit. This room demonstrated the steps designers take to create a final product—ultimately convincing consumers what they should buy—to fit in.
